Reading a GATE syllabus by sections
Every GATE paper's syllabus is published per discipline on the current organising institute's GATE site, structured into numbered sections — plus Engineering Mathematics inside most technical papers and General Aptitude in all of them. The section list is the honest weightage guide: past-paper distribution across sections is far steadier in GATE than in school-board exams.

Syllabus stability is a gift: GATE syllabi change rarely and marginally. A previous-year syllabus is usually 95% right — but the 5% has bitten candidates in revised papers, so skim the current PDF once before you lock your plan.

What is the General Aptitude section in GATE?
All 30 GATE papers include a General Aptitude section worth 15 marks out of 100 (10 questions). The remaining 85 marks cover your chosen paper's subject matter. GA tests verbal ability, numerical ability, and critical reasoning.
