GATE Question Papers

Download GATE previous-year question papers and official answer keys for every paper — CS, DA, ME, EE, EC, CE, and all 30 GATE papers. The official GATE download page provides year-wise papers from 2021 onwards and a bulk archive covering 2007 to 2025. Practising on official PYQs with answer keys is the most reliable way to understand the real question style and difficulty.

GATE papers: the official archive habit

Each year's organising institute publishes GATE question papers and official answer keys; previous years are archived on the GATE websites of the organising IITs/IISc. Papers are per discipline code (ME, CS, EE, CE and so on), and from recent cycles many candidates sit two combinable papers, so pull the archive for every paper code you intend to take.

GATE marking is unforgiving of guessing: 1-mark MCQs lose ⅓ on a wrong answer and 2-mark MCQs lose ⅔, while NAT (numerical answer type) questions carry no negative marking — a distinction your practice scoring should reproduce exactly.

Practise the way GATE examines

  1. Use the virtual calculator from day one — GATE allows only its on-screen virtual calculator. Practising numericals on your phone calculator trains the wrong reflexes.
  2. Score with the real negative-marking rules — Apply ⅓ and ⅔ deductions in every self-scored paper, and attempt NAT questions even at low confidence — they cost nothing to try.
  3. Weight General Aptitude properly — GA is a fixed 15-mark section in every paper and is the cheapest 15 marks in the exam. One past GA section per week keeps it warm.

Keys can be challenged: The provisional answer key window allows paid challenges, and marks do change in final keys most years. Always re-check your projected score against the final key, not the provisional one.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I download GATE previous-year question papers?

The official GATE download page (available from the current-year GATE website) provides year-wise PDFs with answer keys from 2021 onwards, and a bulk archive covering 2007 to 2025. For the most reliable links, always start from the official GATE site for the current cycle — deep links to older cycle sites may have already expired.

Are GATE answer keys available with the question papers?

Yes. The official download page provides separate answer-key PDFs alongside each year's question papers. For 2026 papers, the final answer keys are published after the official challenge window closes in late February.

How many years of GATE papers should I solve?

Solving the last 10 years of papers for your specific GATE paper is a strong baseline. For high-weight topics and question-pattern analysis, extend coverage to the 2007 bulk archive. Focus on your specific paper — question style varies significantly across the 30 papers.
