GATE 2027 GOAPS is live: check your application status after payment
Published by the GATE Help Center Editorial Team As of August 27, 2026, for the GATE 2027 cycle: GOAPS is now open. Candidates should submit early, save the generated PDF, and keep checking the application-status page after payment. The current official GATE 2027 FAQ confirms that a paid application still goes through scrutiny; it is not automatically accepted. If the portal marks an application defective and the candidate does nothing, the application may remain provisional or be rejected. Confirmed — checked August 27, 2026.
## What changed today?
The GATE 2027 portal has opened registration for the cycle organised by IIT Madras. The current schedule lists September 27, 2026 as the regular registration deadline and October 5, 2026 as the closing date for extended registration with a late fee. Confirmed — checked August 27, 2026.
The opening itself was previously reported after the schedule was postponed from August 14. Careers360 reported on August 27, 2026 that the application window had gone live and repeated the September 27 and October 5 deadlines. Reported — secondary-source confirmation, checked August 27, 2026.
The useful update for applicants is the status workflow now set out in the official FAQ. This matters especially in a discontinuity year when candidates are choosing revised papers, new sectional codes, and—in some cases—RA or XE9 instead of an old paper code.
## What each application status means
| Portal status | What it means | What you should do | |---|---|---| | Application submitted | Payment has not yet been completed. Confirmed. | Return to the portal and complete payment. | | Payment received successfully | Your form and payment have been received; it will next go for scrutiny. Confirmed. | Download and preserve the application PDF, then monitor the portal. | | Under Scrutiny | Your application is under review and verification. Confirmed. | Wait, but continue checking your account and registered contact details. | | Incomplete or defective | The authorities have identified a defect that has not yet been corrected. Confirmed. | Read the defect message and rectify it within the stated deadline. | | Defect Rectification Done | You corrected the defect and the application has returned to scrutiny. Confirmed. | Check again until the application is accepted. | | Application accepted | Scrutiny is complete and no further action is required. Confirmed. | Keep the final PDF and payment evidence safely. |
These are not cosmetic labels. The FAQ says that incorrect photographs or signatures can make an application defective. Candidates are expected to correct the problem after receiving an email, SMS, or phone call from the relevant zone. If the defect is not rectified by the deadline, the application may be treated as provisional or rejected. Confirmed — official FAQ checked August 27, 2026.
## Practical checklist for non-CS and re-attempting candidates
1. Do not treat payment as final acceptance. A Mechanical candidate who pays for ME, or a Civil candidate who pays for CE, still has to wait for scrutiny. The same applies to Electrical, Electronics, Chemical, Instrumentation, XE, XL, XH, RA, and cross-discipline applicants. Confirmed.
2. Check the paper and section before generating the PDF. The official FAQ says that data cannot be modified after the online process is completed and the PDF application is generated. It also says paper changes may be allowed later during a specified correction period, against an additional fee, but the dates will be announced separately. Confirmed. For TF candidates moving into the revised XE structure, and for candidates selecting XE, XH, or XL sections, do not assume an old code is still correct.
3. Check the live photograph and uploaded photograph. The official FAQ says the Aadhaar/DigiLocker photograph itself is not used for the application; the live photo and the recent uploaded photo are considered. Confirmed. Upload a clear, recent image and compare the preview before final submission.
4. Keep your DigiLocker details consistent. IIT Madras states that Indian-national candidates must use verified DigiLocker registration, and that name, date of birth, address, and other profile details may be fetched during the process. Confirmed. If your name is wrong in DigiLocker, correct it there before applying where possible.
5. If payment fails, do not immediately pay repeatedly. The official FAQ instructs candidates to log in again and check whether GATE received the payment. If payment was not received, a fresh payment may be initiated. A debited amount without acknowledgement may take about 15 working days to be credited back. Confirmed.
## What happens if you do nothing?
If your status is Application Accepted, no action is required. If it is Under Scrutiny, continue monitoring. If it is Defective, ignoring the message is risky: the official FAQ says the application may ultimately be provisional or rejected. If payment is incomplete, the form is not yet a completed application. Confirmed.
Our recommendation is simple: apply before the September 27 regular deadline rather than waiting for October 5. The official portal warns that dates can change, and the FAQ does not promise that every defect will be fixable after its deadline. Confirmed for the warning; the consequence of missing a particular future correction deadline is not otherwise specified and remains Unverified.
