GATE 2027 correction window fixed: October 14–21

As of September 8, 2026, for the GATE 2027 cycle, the most important new application update is now confirmed: the correction—or “application rectification”—window will run from October 14 to October 21, 2026. This applies to candidates who have already submitted an application, including candidates whose forms are marked defective or provisional. The organising institute is IIT Madras. This matters especially in a discontinuity year. GATE 2027 has revised syllabi, a new Robotics and Automation paper, changed sectional codes for XE, XH and XL, and a changed treatment of Textile Engineering and Fibre Science. A wrong paper code, category, qualifying-degree detail, photograph, identity document or examination city can therefore affect candidates more seriously than in a routine cycle. The correction window is not a second chance to submit a completely new application. IIT Madras says that, after the application PDF has been generated, the form cannot be freely edited immediately. However, after the submission deadline, requests to change the examination paper, examination city or category may be entertained against an additional payment, with the exact dates to be announced. That wording is important for two-paper candidates. If you selected the wrong combination—for example, Mechanical plus Robotics and Automation, or Civil plus Geomatics Engineering—do not assume that the October window will automatically permit every change you want. The official FAQ confirms that paper changes can be requested after the application deadline, but it does not yet publish the complete list of editable fields or the fee for each change. Candidates from the old TF pathway should be particularly careful. Textile Engineering and Fibre Science is no longer listed as a standalone GATE 2027 paper; candidates must check the revised Engineering Sciences structure and the relevant sectional code before submitting or correcting their application. Likewise, XE, XH and XL candidates should compare their selected sections with the revised paper and code structure, rather than relying on a previous-year screenshot or saved form. 1. Log in to the GATE 2027 application portal and check whether the application is paid, under scrutiny, defective or provisional. Confirmed — GATE 2027 FAQs. 2. Download and inspect your application PDF. Check your name, date of birth, selected paper or papers, category, qualifying degree, identity-document details, photograph, signature and city choices. Confirmed — the FAQ says candidates cannot freely modify the form after PDF generation. 3. Resolve obvious defects as soon as the portal permits. Incorrect photographs, signatures or identity-document details can lead to a defective application and may later result in a provisional status or rejection if not rectified by the prescribed deadline. Reported — Careers360 also lists October 14–21 as the correction period and says centre, paper and category changes may involve extra fees, but its article is secondary and includes date errors elsewhere.
