What this site is
GATE Help Center is a free help centre for people sitting GATE — the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering, India. It is not a coaching site. It explains the parts of the GATE year that official documents cover badly and coaching blogs cover only to sell you something.
We are an independent, free help centre for GATE candidates outside computer science. GateOverflow is an established free question bank for GATE CS candidates; we link to it rather than duplicate it. Our own focus is the papers it does not cover — Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Electronics, Chemical, Instrumentation, XE and XL — and the part of GATE that is not the syllabus: COAP, CCMT and PSU recruitment, where decisions are irreversible and the official documents are written in brochure language.
Who it is for
Students deciding whether to sit GATE at all. Working professionals fitting preparation around a job. Re-attempters. Candidates who qualified with a real but uncompetitive score. And the cohorts that get very little dedicated coverage — Textile candidates whose standalone paper is now a section inside Engineering Sciences, XH and XL candidates, and the first people to sit the new Robotics & Automation paper.
The problems this site exists to solve
These are questions candidates actually ask, in public, every year.
— "I qualified but my score is low — what now?" Most people who sit GATE do not qualify, and most who qualify do not get an IIT seat. That cohort — including everyone who missed a cutoff by a fraction of a mark — is who we write for by default.
— Marks, normalised marks, score out of 1000, rank and percentile are different numbers, constantly confused. Any paper run across more than one session is normalised, so normalisation reaches many candidates who never expected it to apply to them. For each cycle we take the exam-day and session count from that cycle's official brochure, link it and date it.
— Choosing a paper. GATE itself restricts almost nothing, but M.Tech admission offices and PSU recruiters check discipline eligibility separately, so a valid score can still be unusable. GATE DA sharpened this for CS-adjacent students.
— COAP. A round count that is set afresh each cycle, hard morning deadlines, irreversible clicks. Accept & Freeze, Retain & Wait and Reject do very different things, and the brochure explains them in brochure language. We publish the number of rounds and every round deadline only from that cycle's own COAP schedule, with the date we checked it.
— COAP and CCMT are not the same thing. Separate portals, separate fees, overlapping calendars — many candidates learn they had to run both only when it is too late.
— PSU questions where published sources contradict each other, including whether PSUs accept a GATE DA score. We show the disagreement and the primary documents.
— Money. Whether the M.Tech assistantship is rising, falling or being withdrawn; whether a master's is worth two years of forgone salary; whether a drop year is affordable.
— Exam-hall mechanics that quietly destroy scores — how optional-section selection works in XE, and what happens to your answers if you change your mind mid-paper.
— The GATE 2027 changes. Syllabus revised for every paper, a new Robotics & Automation paper, Textile folded into Engineering Sciences, sectional codes moved, DigiLocker and facial verification at registration, and an exam-day schedule we report only from the GATE 2027 brochure once it is published. Much of the GATE content online still describes the older pattern.
What this site does not do
We are a help centre, not an authority: not the GATE organising institute, not COAP, not CCMT, not a PSU. We cannot register you for GATE, edit your GOAPS application, retrieve your admit card, change your exam city, alter your score, or influence any allotment or PSU recruitment decision. We do not sell exam access, question papers, "leaked" material or guaranteed results, and we are not a paid admissions agent. For anything official, use the current cycle's official portal, linked on the relevant page.
How our pages are made
Every page is written or reviewed by the GATE Help Center Editorial Team; we publish under the team name rather than invent an author. Every factual claim carries a source, a last-checked date and a label — Confirmed (official primary document), Reported (named credible secondary source) or Unverified (sources disagree, or we could not check it). Some drafts are AI-assisted; every published page is checked by a human editor against primary sources. When we get something wrong we fix it and log it publicly. Who operates this site
This site is operated by Gyaniversity Publications, an Indian educational publisher. That matters for one reason: accountability. Free, and no login
Everything here is free to read: no account, no sign-up, no paywall, no "unlock full answer". The site is funded by advertising, labelled as advertising.
Commercial disclosure
Gyaniversity Publications is a commercial publisher: it publishes study guides and learning products for school and competitive exams, and runs a paid AI study product. There are no Gyaniversity printed guide books for GATE, so you will not see book links here. Where we recommend something the operator sells, that block is labelled an advertisement for our own product — not a review, not editorial advice — and never appears on our About, Contact, Editorial Policy or legal pages.
